After intensive research, we have developed LIXUM PRO – Beehive Sealant to optimally protect wooden components commonly used in the construction of both indoor and outdoor beehives.
As proven by a contact test (according to OECD guideline No. 214) and an oral test (according to OECD guideline No. 213), which were carried out by an independent laboratory, neither the bee nor its behavior are affected by our product.
We are the only company to have published the results of these tests in full, including the original report, unlike other companies which publish only vague, generalized, and unspecific information.

LIXUM PRO – Beehive Sealant
is a completely pollutant-free, vegan, odorless, and translucent wood coating, and is made from purely plant-based, high-quality active ingredients. This product ensures the wood surfaces are cared for and preserves their natural structure by providing immediate and long-lasting protection against various weather effects.
The honey bee is both one of the smallest livestock animals and one of the most important.
Approximately 80% of plants are dependent on cross-pollination, and of those plants about 80% are pollinated by honey bees.
The wood materials commonly found in beekeeping components (beehives, storage boxes, free stands, protective roofs, etc…) require a protective coating against weather and environmental influences. If these components are left unprotected the wood may become infested with blue rot, fungi, or lichen, all of which can lead to structural damage.
Disadvantages of Conventional Paints
Beehives are often treated with oil-based paints or linseed oil, which offer neither adequate weather resistance nor protection against fungal attack. The oils found in conventional paints eventually wash out, requiring frequent renovation coats in order to protect and care for the wood surfaces.
Protection lacquers or solvent-based sealants are also not recommended since these only lie on the surface without penetrating into the wood components. Then, as temperatures fluctuate, the wood begins to swell, shrink or crack. Eventually these conventional lacquers or sealants will fracture and as moisture seeps in the natural structure of the wood becomes damaged.
The chemical and synthetic ingredients used in these conventional paints/sealants may also influence the behavior and health of the bees.

… Insgesamt finde ich Lixum prima, besonders gefällt mir das Preis-Leistungs-Verhältnis, für den Anstrich ist nur ein Arbeitsgang erforderlich, die Farbauswahl ist besser als bei Pigrol etc., die Holzstruktur bleibt sichtbar wodurch die Farben natürlich wirken und auf dem Waldstandort Unbefugten weniger auffällig sind als mit voll deckenden Farben behandelte Beuten. Bienenverflug wird nach meiner Erfahrung auch bei enger Stellung ausreichend vorgebeugt.

Marketing OPTIMAL BEES
Liebes Lixum-Team,
ich habe zwei unserer OPTIMAL Modul Bienenbeuten mit der transparenen LIXUM PRO Bienenbeutenlasur gestrichen.
Ich bin begeistert, erstens weil die Lasur lecker riecht und nicht nach Lösungsmitteln. Zweitens weil ich blitzschnell mit der Arbeit fertig war. Drittens weil sie sich fantastisch unkompliziert auftragen lässt. Viertens weil sie ungewöhnlich ergiebig ist. Fünftes weil sie die beiden Modul Beuten in vollem Glanz erstrahlen laesst. Ich habe mich exakt an alle Anweisungen gehalten und nun dürfen die beiden schönen OPTIMAL Beuten bis Sonntag Abend bei vorgeschriebener Temperatur und Luftfeuchtigkeit trocknen, bevor sie unsere Kundin in der Schweiz erhält. Wir freuen uns sehr über unsere weitere Zusammenarbeit.

Ich habe ca. 30 Beuten (ca. 90 Zargen) mit Lixum Beutenschutz gestrichen und bin absolut zufrieden. Die Farben sehen gut aus und die Beuten sind vor den schlimmsten Wetterkapriolen geschützt. Da nur 1x gestrichen werden muss spart Lixum zudem viel Zeit.

In einer Facebook-Bienen-Gruppe wurde Lixum empfohlen und ich habe mal vorsichtig olivgrün bestellt – das Ergebnis war TOP. Total easy mit dem Schwamm aufzutragen, TOP in der Verarbeitung und sieht klasse aus. Nachdem ich nur wenige Völker habe, die Farbpalette aber so groß ist und ich mich nicht entscheiden kann, habe ich mir die Probegrößen nachbestellt ( 1 Probe reicht genau für 1 Zarge ). Im Behältnis sehen die Farben gruselig aus 🙂 aber auf der Zarge sind die dann richtig Klasse. Hier von unten nach oben die Farben : gelb, orange und lachs rot.
